Blood-Red Eyes
Book One: “Trials”
Cover design & illustration for the first novel in a high-fantasy vampire trilogy
Blood-Red Eyes is a dark fantasy series released independently by L. Laszlo Mady, which centres on a world of unique magical cultures and the dark, vampiric underbelly which controls it from the shadows.
The cover for “Trials”, the first book, was commissioned directly by the author, who provided the series logo, a basic sketch of the cover, and requested the use of yellow as the primary colour.
The goal was to create a visually striking and conceptual image using the sketch provided, as many details from the novel were still being developed during the illustration process. Being able to iterate and expand on these loose or implicit descriptions was a key skill relevant to this project.
The book was officially published on July 20, 2021 on Amazon.
This project also involved licensing fonts, client presentations and reformatting the design for a variety of dimensions. As the first book in the series, it was also important to consider brand development and to plan ahead for the rest of the series’ artwork going forward.
